Time Machine

For this action project my class mates and I had to recreate a memory and state how it defines who you are. The memory I chose was graduating the 8th grade, I chose this memory because it shows how much of an accomplishment I have made from 8th grade to GCE. The part I enjoyed during this action project was being able to pick any memory we wanted and telling it to people, but then I also disliked having to 'show people the senses (smell, touch, sight). Down below is the script of my recording, and a picture that resembles my topic.

It was the the day I dreaded the most, yet I was excited. The day I graduated Walt Disney. I was dreadful because, it was the day I was finally graduating the 8th grade, now some people would think its just the 8th grade but I thought it was a big deal because I’ve been going to Disney since I was in kindergarden, and I thought I would never see the day I graduated, it made me feel like I was evolving into a whole nother person. This memory shaped who I am today because it makes me realize how much of an accomplishment I’ve made from graduating 8th grade to going to GCE. It was dreadful because all the friends I made through the eight years there would be going there different ways. I was also excited because I would be going somewhere different, a place that I wasn't accustomed to, I guess you could say it was biitersweet.

When I arrived to school I went to the third floor where my class was,I recall seeing the boys wearing their vests and dress pants, and the girls wearing their beautiful dresses. Most of the girls were already crying, some were remembering old times while others were talking about what they already planned to do in the summer. When we finally got situated we had to get ready in the costume room, which was mess! The graduation gowns all got rearranged because the janitor cleaned the room the night before, therefore different classes had other classes gowns, and people didn't know how to apply there ribbons, or wear their hats. It looked like a scene from a TV show. I recall girls running back and forth trying to find they're gowns, applying tons of perfume that smelled like an old lady, and yes more crying! Once the ceremony started we walked out, and I saw my mom in the crowd trying to get my attention to take a picture, she kept whispering/ yelling my name to get my attention but, I couldn't stop the line so I just quickly smiled at her. It made me at ease to see her because it would have been awkward not knowing where to go after the ceremony.

Finally arriving to my seat, the principal began to speak about the school year and what we accomplished.I really didn't pay attention, I just stared off into the audience feeling eager to already graduate. After she finished talking my classmates and I sang The pledge of Allegiance, come sail away, and half of the star spangled banner . The principal then announced a keynote speaker which was, Toni Preckwinkle the cook county board president, she talked a little about herself , and how she became the board president. She also talked to us about making right decisions in school and in life.

Next it was time for our principal to hand us our diplomas, the music teacher played a song called Hall of fame , I was nervous because I didn’t want to fall in the wedges I was wearing, when the principal said my name I heard my mom, dad, and aunt cheering in the background it made me smile because I knew the would want to take a picture. Walking back to my seat I was relieved I didn’t fall. Finally came the time when we got to turn our tassels, the teachers motioned for us to rise and all I saw were cameras flashing from left to right, then the principal yells ‘turn your tassels from right to left, I now present to you class of 2013’! The audience erupted in cheers, I was proud to say I graduated! This is why I chose this I chose this memory.

Propane

For this Action Project me and, my classmates had to pick a natural resource and research about it. I chose propane. Propane is a fossil fuel that is found in tiny sea animals and plants found deep in the earth. It is mostly used for grilling and heating homes. The most rewarding part of this project was finally finishing it because it was very hard finding deep research on propane, but I eventually found it. Down below is my slideshow on propane, it talks about what propane is, how its used and other specifics, Enjoy!

I Believe In Expression Of Style

For this action project I had to make a podcast on what I believed in, we were able to pick endless topics of what we believed in. I chose freedom of style and expression, I chose these two beliefs because I believe everyone is entitled to express themselves through whatever they chose, I chose clothes as my expression. The biggest accomplishment for this action project was being able to find a topic I actually was interested in. I think it was nice that we got to pick a topic we wanted instead of having a teacher tell you what to do. The hardest part of this project was, trying to put the thoughts I had on paper, but lucky I had support from my teacher. Down below is my essay I read during my podcast, and my podcast itself!

What do you believe in? I believe in freedom of style, I believe in freedom of style and expression because, style resembles who you are, therefore why not express it. When I was little I can recall picking out the craziest clothes, but my mom didn't mind.I would wear a bright yellow raincoat with cowboy boots, I thought it was creative and so did she. That was my expression of joy through my clothes.

Going into middle school I really didn't care for style I would throw on anything that I saw that morning. At the time I lost my self expression and was just too lazy to put effort into my clothing style. When girls in my class I rarely talked to started to take notice in my effortless dressing and would always make remarks like ‘your shirt does not match your pants’ or ‘why do you always wear sweatpants”. At the time I could not understand why they cared anyway its my clothes I can chose to wear it if I wan’t.

One day, in an effort to get them to stop commenting about my clothes and decided to rediscover my inner-creativity and express myself through my clothes as I did when I was young. But, I’m not 5 anymore so a yellow rain jacket and cowboy boots wouldn’t fly. I decided to dig through my closet for matching clothes, I wore skinny jeans, with a floral shirt, and bright shoes to school the next day. After that day, the girls no longer commented on my clothes which was a relief but there was a bigger lesson. That day, I went back to my childhood and experienced the joys of expressing myself creatively through my clothes. While, I did not dress differently to fit in, it did make me rediscover the importance and power of having a sense of style.

Now growing up I see more and more people are getting judged on what they wear, throughout the media and in the regular world. For example Lady Gaga is big in the media because of her choice of clothing. From her meat dresses to no clothes at all people still judge her, but that is her freedom of expression, and I think it brings her joy so why not? I believe you should dress to express yourself, That is why I believe its okay to wear what you want because its your sense of style and no one can take that away from you. Sure your fiery pink hair may take me by surprise on the train but thats who you are, be you. It does not have to be just clothes that can express who you are.

I also believe your sense of style can bring you happiness. I think wearing what you think is right may boost your confidence, maybe even get you to talk more if you’re feeling brave, thats the impact I think style has on people. In conclusion I believe people should express themselves for who they truly are because if you don't you're living in a lie. Try it take a risk it may be good for you. You're style is your personality wear it!

The 76ers Are The Best Team Ever!

In my basketball course '82' me and my classmates had to make a 2 minute video argument on why the basketball team of our choice( and the season) was the best, and why. We had to state our case and find evidence backing up our claims. The team I chose was the Philadelphia 76ers in their 1966-67 season, I believe they were the best because they had outstanding players that beat the Celtics eight winning streak.  As you will also hear in my argument below I talk about Wilt Chamberlain and how he was a great asset to the 76ers. He was a player that played his own way of basketball and wasn't afraid of doing so. For this particular project the most rewarding thing about it was learning more about a different team and its history, something I usually don't have interest in today. The most challenging part was finding information on the team overall. In conclusion this project was short yet simple. Down below you will see my two minute reflection on why the 76ers are the best team ever!

We Wear Pink On Wednesdays!

For my Global Peace course me and my classmates had to create a non-violent project that spreads awareness to a cause we picked. The organization I chose was the Anti-bullying organization, (a.k.a) Pink shirt day. This organization supports anti bullying and tries to put a stop to bullying due to deaths, etc. Bullying is an act of use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants . I chose this organization because they are trying to put a stop to a violent problem.
For my action project I carried out a plan for me and my classmates to wear Pink on Wednesday since that was the actual day (but not the exact month) you are supposed to show support for Anti-bullying . I spread-ed the word by project telling people through posters, and word of mouth. I told people what my project was about and how they could support the cause (by wearing pink) . Although the majority of people I told did not show up I still managed to take a successful picture! The next time I have to do a project similar to this I will make sure I announce it formally to everyone. In conclusion this project taught me more about how people have organized these national events which is really great for people to become aware of.

Should The Heat Stay In Miami?

                                                                         AMK(2013)

In my course '82' me and my class mates had to make an info graph based on a basketball franchise we had to pick, an info graph is a graph that shows visual such as charts or diagrams, to represent data. I made an info graph that represents all of Miamis data over the years. I am most proud of my info graph poster because it came out a success, it represents all of the information I need on the Heat and it is easy to maneuver(read) . What I wish could have been better was the text I used to write with and how it displayed on my bored. The basketball franchise I chose was The Miami Heat, The Miami Heat is a basketball team that started in 1997 in Miami ,Florida. I believe that The Miami Heat should stay in Miami Florida because, The Miami Heat today is a great team featuring great players; Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, and Chris Bosh These three players have led the team to two consecutive championships due to their outstanding performances.

Also the team is well respected as 'leaders'.Since Lebron James came to The Heat in 2010, their attendance rate has gone up from 95.2%(in 2009-10) to 100.7%(in 2011-2012). The Miami heat attendance plays a great factor in the team in general because without the fans the franchise  would then lose money, and also support from Miami. Additionally The Miami Heat as a franchises is worth $625 million; $173 million for sport, $232 million for market, $142 million for stadium, and $82 million for brand. The Miami Heats worth is the 6th greatest in the NBA league.

The Miami Heat should stay in Miami because they would also attract a lot of tourists, Miami is a beautiful city that has wonderful places such as beaches, malls, and of course, The American Airlines Arena. I believe if The Heat continue to stay in Miami they would eventually become as big as the New York Knicks, or the Los Angeles Lakers. In conclusion I think the Miami Heat should delay on going anywhere , any time soon because, of how good they have been performing over the course of four years, also they seem to have very supporting fans which always makes a team compelling. Why would you want them to leave?

Down below are bigger pictures of my poster.

Garfield Park letter

In this letter I will be addressing the issue in Garfield park. I chose Garfield Park because it is a neighborhood that suffers from violence, I wrote this letter to the Alderman so he could take action and find the root of this cause, also so he could get informed on what is going on. This is why I am writing this letter to Garfield parks local Alderman.

Dear Jason C. Ervin,

I am a student from GCE High school, I am writing this letter to you today because in my course Global Peace it  teaches us about how we should become Global citizens and how we should apply it to the world. The issue I will be addressing more in depth of my letter is Garfield parks violence. Although i’m not from Garfield park area I often go their  notice there's a ton of crimes going on in that particular area. Local businesses in Garfield are running low because people in Garfield are most likely afraid of going out in fear of getting shot. This is why local businesses in Garfield are running to an all time low.

The terrible actions going on in Garfield must stop because these shootings and rapes and many more crimes, are taking effect on the people of Garfield. The citizens in Garfield are taking people’s lives like it’s nothing. These actions are  having an effect on the people of Garfield . Every time I go to Garfield park there's always police cars on every other corner Although this may help, it also makes the people of Garfield feel like people are watching their every move. This makes the people of Garfield knowingly worried that something at anytime of the day may happen, and they don't know when and why. We as citizens of Chicago need to find the root of the cause and figure out what we can do to prevent these things from continuing to happen.

I propose that Garfield Park area build some sort of Community center where it isn't run down but the best of the best! I think this Community center should consist of activities for Kids, youth, and adults. This center could also add jobs in the community such as camp counselors, desks operators, custodians etc. I think with this center it would be a sort of local business because it would be runned by the people of Garfield. What I am trying to plead to you is that this community need some sort of thing to help them. I predict if we build something similar to this then we could possibly be a better community.

Thank you for taking the time in reading my letter,
AMK
