I Believe In Expression Of Style

For this action project I had to make a podcast on what I believed in, we were able to pick endless topics of what we believed in. I chose freedom of style and expression, I chose these two beliefs because I believe everyone is entitled to express themselves through whatever they chose, I chose clothes as my expression. The biggest accomplishment for this action project was being able to find a topic I actually was interested in. I think it was nice that we got to pick a topic we wanted instead of having a teacher tell you what to do. The hardest part of this project was, trying to put the thoughts I had on paper, but lucky I had support from my teacher. Down below is my essay I read during my podcast, and my podcast itself!

What do you believe in? I believe in freedom of style, I believe in freedom of style and expression because, style resembles who you are, therefore why not express it. When I was little I can recall picking out the craziest clothes, but my mom didn't mind.I would wear a bright yellow raincoat with cowboy boots, I thought it was creative and so did she. That was my expression of joy through my clothes.

Going into middle school I really didn't care for style I would throw on anything that I saw that morning. At the time I lost my self expression and was just too lazy to put effort into my clothing style. When girls in my class I rarely talked to started to take notice in my effortless dressing and would always make remarks like ‘your shirt does not match your pants’ or ‘why do you always wear sweatpants”. At the time I could not understand why they cared anyway its my clothes I can chose to wear it if I wan’t.

One day, in an effort to get them to stop commenting about my clothes and decided to rediscover my inner-creativity and express myself through my clothes as I did when I was young. But, I’m not 5 anymore so a yellow rain jacket and cowboy boots wouldn’t fly. I decided to dig through my closet for matching clothes, I wore skinny jeans, with a floral shirt, and bright shoes to school the next day. After that day, the girls no longer commented on my clothes which was a relief but there was a bigger lesson. That day, I went back to my childhood and experienced the joys of expressing myself creatively through my clothes. While, I did not dress differently to fit in, it did make me rediscover the importance and power of having a sense of style.

Now growing up I see more and more people are getting judged on what they wear, throughout the media and in the regular world. For example Lady Gaga is big in the media because of her choice of clothing. From her meat dresses to no clothes at all people still judge her, but that is her freedom of expression, and I think it brings her joy so why not? I believe you should dress to express yourself, That is why I believe its okay to wear what you want because its your sense of style and no one can take that away from you. Sure your fiery pink hair may take me by surprise on the train but thats who you are, be you. It does not have to be just clothes that can express who you are.

I also believe your sense of style can bring you happiness. I think wearing what you think is right may boost your confidence, maybe even get you to talk more if you’re feeling brave, thats the impact I think style has on people. In conclusion I believe people should express themselves for who they truly are because if you don't you're living in a lie. Try it take a risk it may be good for you. You're style is your personality wear it!
